Atop the Hill

December 2, 2009

This picture was taken a couple of months ago just before harvest. It’s a great birds eye view of Youngberg Hill and all the different aspects. The two big green areas are the Jordan Block (upper left) and Natasha Block (lower middle). To the left is the three year old vines of the Aspen Block (pinot gris). In the left corner between the Jordan and Natasha Blocks is the new planting of Pinot noir (Camelot Block). This is a total of 21 acres. Along the upper right side is the horse pasture, below the red barn.

On top of the hill is the bright green area where weddings are held and the adjoining tents for shade. And of course, on top is the lovely Inn overseeing everything.

Cafe Uncorked

November 20, 2009

We are very excited about the opening of Cafe Uncorked just west of McMinnville on Hwy 18. It is owned by Virginia Murphy, who previously owned Fresh Palate Cafe across the street. Not only is a bigger better space, there is also a wine bar and tasting room to fill the void left by the closing of Oregon Tasting Room. This tasting room will allow many of us wineries in the McMinnville AVA to have our wines available for tasting. Youngberg Hill will be tasting there Thanksgiving weekend as well as at our tasting room up at the vineyard on Youngberg Hill. We are releasing the 2007 vintage Jordan and Natasha Pinot noirs.

Come celebrate with us at both locations.

Cheers!

Another beautiful day

October 22, 2009

Our guests are enjoying a tour in the vineyard to be followed by a winery tour and barrel tasting of our 2008s.

The 2009s are in fermentation and part of the Natasha Block is ready to press off. The wines are tasting delicious.

Winery tours

October 20, 2009

We have been busy this week giving winery tours to guests at the Inn who are interested in the wine making process, barrel taste wines and those just out of fermentation, and to experience crush. The Natasha Block lots are about 80% through fermentation except for one lot that we had left in cold soak for three more days. The Jordan fruit just started fermentation yesterday. The wines are looking wonderful so far.

Work continues in the vineyard as we are sowing ground cover between vine rows, planting replacement plants in the Camelot Block, wire work in the Aspen Block, and beginning maintenance on trellises and vines in the two older blocks.

We love it when our guests are engaged with us in the process whether it be in the vineyard, the winery, or the Inn. We love sharing what we do.tr_wine22tr_wine12

Winery Girls

October 19, 2009

OK, taking 3 young children to the winery all at the same time with the expectation of doing something productive was not a good plan but we had a fun time.  Aspen really loves Joe.

We are taking several of our guests for a barrel tasting at the winery this afternoon.
