The New Year

January 5, 2010

We are attending the OBBG meeting this week.

We have guest staying with us this week from Philadelphia, Miami, Denver, Los Angeles, and Eugene. It is wonderful having guests stay with us in the “off season” to enjoy the serenity of the Hill.

Vineyard work is progressing well and we will start pruning this weekend. Lots to do. The weather is not too rainy.

We opened up a couple of bottles of 2007s last night. They are developing well in the bottle and opened up well.

What a glorious day it is up here on the Hill. Just finishing a wine tasting and then back into the vineyard.

“Tis the season

No not for shopping (yet), for working in the vineyard. The weather is cooperating today to let us stay dry and get more work done before pruning.

The guests just left for the day. We have several wine tasting appointments coming up this afternoon. Unfortunately, the fog has not lifted enough to see our great views. Maybe it will lift later.

Atop the Hill

December 2, 2009

This picture was taken a couple of months ago just before harvest. It’s a great birds eye view of Youngberg Hill and all the different aspects. The two big green areas are the Jordan Block (upper left) and Natasha Block (lower middle). To the left is the three year old vines of the Aspen Block (pinot gris). In the left corner between the Jordan and Natasha Blocks is the new planting of Pinot noir (Camelot Block). This is a total of 21 acres. Along the upper right side is the horse pasture, below the red barn.

On top of the hill is the bright green area where weddings are held and the adjoining tents for shade. And of course, on top is the lovely Inn overseeing everything.

Another great day on The Hill.

Getting ready for the big Thanksgiving Weekend.

Great moments!

November 22, 2009

This was a picture taken by a photographer, JOS, at one of our weddings this last summer. It is only one of several spectacular shots he took. We are fortunate to have many great photographers, both professional and amateur, that take great pictures of our site and of the views from our home and Inn. Hope you enjoy them.

Olive pressing!

November 16, 2009

It’s hard for any winemaker to imagine that there is anything in life to do outside of wine but there is!  A close second to grape harvest is olive harvest that is happening this week at Red Ridge Farm Oregon’s new and first regional olive mill servicing the entire Oregon olive industry.  So much of what we do in the grape/wine industry relates to the olive industry and is a great compliment.  We had the pleasure of having a personal tour today from Tasha Byrd.  Tasha took us through the whole process from harvest to bottling both new olive oil (so fresh it needs to be used within 120 days of bottling) and filtered olive oil.    You can have an olive tasting in their showroom and enjoy their amazing views of the Red Hills of Dundee.  On your tour of wine country this is a fun stop and one to not miss along the way.  We just made homemade bread to go with our dinner of fresh olive oil!  Yum!!!!023020
