We have fruit in the barn. It was an excellent day for picking. We came in yielding just shy of 2 ton an acre. There was no fungus, very clean fruit with lots of flavor. Brix were 24%, TA 6.9, and ph 3.2. Good numbers to work in the winery with. We had fun. Thanks to my friends Jess, Dan, and Susan for coming over to help.
Fortunately, the clouds have broken to sunshine for the moent and we are not getting as much rain as they anticipated. Good news for the grapes.
A perfect day for watching the grapes mature.
The weather has been cooperating very nicely and the fruit is getting some wonderful hang time. The Valley is about a week behind for harvest and should see some fruit being pulled this coming week.
We are soon approaching Harvest here in the glorious Willamett Valley. Some whites and a little Pinot noir lower down in the valley may come off next week. We lucked out this week with the hot weather not being as hot as they predicted and there are no signs of dehydration so far. As cooler temperatures are predicted going forward, maturation should slow a little. Last week Brix were at 16.5. This week in the high 18s. That should slow somewhat as we get closer and cooler. Come out to experience harvest the first couple of weeks in August. The fruit looks fabulous!
